Movies, Movies, Movies ~ My Reviews from the Beginning of Summer

So obviously I have been slacking on my reviews, but do not fret, here they are.  Most are from date nights but I did get to go see a movie with Tyce just Mommy and son, so I added that one too.  Prepare yourself, this is a long(ish) post.

Date Night Movie Review ~ Now You See Me

I really liked this movie.  I feel like if I say too much of anything about it that I will be giving something away.  It is not so much about magic as it is about staying ahead of all of the twists and turns.  I found it very interesting and overall a fun movie to go see.

Date Night Movie Review ~ Man of Steel (Superman)

Superman was super action-packed.  So I have a little confession to make.......I really didn't want to see this movie.  I'm not really sure why except that it seems like other Superman movies just have seemed so cheesy.  But I have to say that this movie was exceptional and definitely came up to the bar that was set by The Avengers and the like.

This particular movie gave a lot of the back story and didn't even really refer to him as Superman, but there was also plenty of action to go around.  It leaves the story wide open for a sequel and possibly for a Justice League franchise.  I welcome this new Superman!

Mommy/Son Movie Night ~ Monsters University

We are always timid to bring the boys to a movie b/c we have had lots of bad experiences.  Usually we venture out to the drive-in where we think we are not disturbing anyone, but most of the time the kids are so crazy that we miss half the movie.  So we put a stop to the drive-ins and this was the first time we were brave enough to do the kid movie thing again.  But we still only took Tyce.  He asked alot of questions (he is in the "why" stage) but otherwise he was pretty good.  I kept stuffing his face with popcorn which helped...hehe.

Oh yeah, you wanted a review.  I thought it was super cute and just as good as the first one.  It was a great story that could stand on its own.  Very family friendly with the exception of a few scary parts (it is a monster movie after all).  There were also a couple of adult inuendos that I am pretty sure no kid would understand.

Tyce loved it and said it was the "best movie ever".  He calls it the monster movie.  He also proceeded to tell me that "Girls don't like monsters except mommies so they can scare them" - not really sure what that meant but he is in a phase where girls can't do the things boys can do.  When I remind him that Mommy is a girl he just changes to Mommy can do it but no other girls (he is not learning this from us so I am not sure where it is coming from).

Anyway, go see it!

Date Night Movie Review ~ The Internship

This movie was exactly what you should expect from a Vince Vaugn / Owen Wilson get together.  It was their classic witty banter combined with a pretty predictable story line.  I enjoyed it knowing exactly what I was getting into when we went.  I wasn't expecting some epic story but I definitely laughed my butt off.

I was impressed by how cool Google  though.  Especially the Harry Potter quitich field they have pictured below!!

Date Night Movie Review ~ The Heat

I couldn't wait for this movie to come out.  I have been seeing the previews for so long and I just knew it was going to hilarious.  Believe me it did not disappoint!!  They pretty much just let Melissa McCarthy improv anything she wanted I think.  It was so funny to see her and Sandra Bullock together.  And for once Bullock was not the star of the movie, they really let McCarthy shine in this one.  Again the story was not impressive but the characters and witty lines were to die for.  Loved it!

Date Night Movie Review ~ The Hangover Part III

Ok, so this was last week's date night movie during the sickness extravaganza.  Chris's pick - but I was also super excited to see it.  It was supposed to be the epic end to a so-called trilogy of awesomeness (yes that is a word in my book).

I will start off by saying that I really loved the first and second Hangover movies.  Now I will end by saying this last one was completely lame and I wish I never would have paid money to go see it.  Complete and utter fail in my book.  It wasn't really funny (like at all).  I love this kind of humor (which is strange for a girl) but I hated this movie.  I don't think I really laughed through the whole thing.  I cracked a smile here or there but not the kind of roaring laughter of the other 2 movies.

As we were leaving the theatre and I was telling my husband how disappointed I was, he tells me that he thought it was funny.  Well, I didn't hear him really laugh out loud either so I don't really believe him.

The best part of the movie for me was Melissa McCarthy, the only person who delivered any funny lines.  The little kid who is the all grown up baby was pretty cute as well.

That's it.......lame.......as the movie poster above says......the end.

Date Night Movie Review ~ The Great Gatsby

Well after a week off due to work, date night is back (and sorely missed).  I was not even feeling very good and we still went out for some us time.

This week was my week to choose and I picked The Great Gatsby.  I was very excited when I first saw the previews for this movie.  Mainly b/c I have been in love with Baz Luhrmann since I saw Moulin Rouge long ago.  His style is so amazing to me.  It is almost like watching a broadway stage show on the big screen.  I also enjoy Leonardo DiCaprio and Toby Maguire.

This movie definitely did not disappoint!!  It was visually spectacular.  In true Baz Luhrman style, it incorporated a lot of modern music but made it "work" in the 20's setting of the movie.  It has been a long time since I have read "The Great Gatsby", but from what I can remember this move stuck pretty close to the book.  It was very dramatic in spots and had the entire audience laughing out loud in other spots.  It had all of the twists and turns of the original story.  The acting performances by EVERYONE were spot on!

I whole-heartedly suggest seeing this one on the big screen.  I guess it is being offered in 3D as well but I'm not sure we really missed anything by not seeing it (I'm not the biggest fan of 3D if you cannot tell).

My husband never had to read this in school and he thoroughly enjoyed it as well.  What did you think?

Date Night Movie Review ~ Iron Man 3

It's date night again!  So, we were definitely waiting for this one to come out!  The hubby and I love all of the Marvel movies.  Even after seeing this one, nothing is going to beat out The Avengers for me but this was a close second.

The movie was action packed and very funny at the same time.  No one could replace Robert Downey Jr. in the Iron Man role.  It is just made for him.  He is so rude sometimes (his character) but you just eat it up and beg for more.  Interestingly enough, that is the exact way my husband is, so maybe I am just attracted to it (just kidding, kinda, love you honey).

I don't have anything else crazy witty to say. I loved the movie.  Robert Downey Jr. was great.  Ben Kingsley was a pleasant surprise in his character as well.

As always with the Marvel movies, if you wait until after the credits are over there is a short teaser at the end.  I enjoyed it and thought it was funny and worth staying.  But I did hear alot of people saying "you made me stay for that?".  So take it or leave it, but we decided if there was any extra on-screen action (no matter how trivial) we wanted to see it!

Definitely go see it in the theatre.  We did not see it in 3D and I don't feel like we missed out on anything...

Did you get to see it yet?  What did you think?  Comment below.
